Hemlock Springs Overlook

Facing east from an elevation of 3,380 ft (1030 m), Hemlock Springs Overlook is a great place to contemplate the dynamic nature of the forest. The ridge to the right is home to a few eastern hemlock trees once very common in Shenandoah. Most of the Eastern Hemlocks were killed by an invasive pest called the hemlock woolly adelgid. Nicholson Hollow is below you, with Pinnacle Ridge rising above.
