Shriner Peak Trailhead
in
Mount Rainier

The road to access Shriner Peak Trailhead, SR 123, closes in the winter from the north via SR 410 at Chinook Pass and to the south at the SR 123 entrance near Ohanapecosh.

Hike to Shriner Peak Fire Lookout, one of four historic fire lookouts in the park, from this trailhead located on SR 123, 3.5 miles north of the Stevens Canyon Entrance. The strenuous hike gains 3,434 feet in elevation, climbing up through the forest to a sun-exposed ridgeline that offers no shade but has incredible views of Mount Rainier. Be sure to bring plenty of water and start your hike early in the day to avoid the hottest afternoon hours.

At the summit of Shriner Peak, directly south of the lookout, there is a wilderness camping area with two individual campsites (with a capacity of five people each) at an elevation of 5,355 feet. Wilderness permits are required for all overnight stays in the backcountry.

Pets are not allowed on trails at Mount Rainier National Park. This trailhead is not accessible by vehicles during the winter months. The nearest restrooms are located 3.7 miles south off SR 123 at the Grove of the Patriarchs trailhead near the Stevens Canyon Entrance.
