Title: Longmire Administration Building

This striking building, completed in 1928, features glacial boulders and thick cedar logs. These local materials capture the character of the mountain setting. The building offered improved capacity over an earlier three-room structure. The second story was added in 1930. 

Park Superintendent Tomlinson called the Administration Building "one of the finest every constructed with national park funds." It served as the park's administrative headquarters until 1976 when a new facility opened in Ashford. The Administration Building now serves as the Longmire Wilderness Information Center and as staff offices. 

Exhibit Panel Description
The main text against a green background fills the top half of the small, vertically-oriented exhibit panel. The bottom half of the exhibit panel is filled with a black-and-white historic photo of the Longmire Administration Building. The two-story building is constructed of large boulders on the bottom story and wood logs on the top story, with a wood-shingled roof and covered porch. The building is framed by tall conifer trees, with several smaller trees in front of the building. 

Visit This Exhibit Panel
The Longmire Administration Building exhibit panel is part of the Longmire Historic District Walking Tour. It is located next to a stone path that leads to the front of the building. Longmire is open year-round, but the exhibit panels are removed during the winter. However, you can still pick up a Longmire Historic District Walking Tour map at the Longmire Museum and view the buildings in winter.
