Hike this 5-mile loop trail with an elevation gain of 400 ft. and be led through a maze of Joshua Tree National Park’s famous granite rock formations. Start the hike in a sandy wash before meandering through boulder piles and Joshua tree woodlands. Look above and you might find large ravens or a hawk flying overhead. Watch below and there may be cottontail rabbits, lizards, or the occasional desert tortoise traveling across the landscape.
Hikers can connect to other trails via Maze Loop including North View Trail and Big Pines Trail. Expect steep sections and pay close attention to trail markers. Some sections of the trail may be hard to identify between washes and social trails. Use the app’s integrated map to help you navigate.
This trail is not recommended in the summer heat, due to it’s length and lack of shade. Make sure to bring adequate food and water supplies and proper sun protection.
