Located along Pinto Basin Road, the Arch Rock and Twin Tanks Trailhead provides access to two popular trails: the Arch Rock Trail and the California Riding and Hiking Trail.
Arch Rock Trail is a 1.4-mile lollipop loop with a 100 ft elevation gain that leads to the iconic Arch Rock formation. This family-friendly trail is a delightful exploration of Joshua Tree’s unique geological features and offers views of Arch Rock, Whale Rock, and a short detour to Heart Rock. It is an excellent choice for photographers and rock scramblers. While on the trail, see how many other unique rock formations remind you of fun shapes or animals!
Due to the popularity of this trail, parking can be difficult. On busy days, arrive at the trailhead early to beat the crowds. When crossing the road, please use the crosswalk. Always remember to bring adequate water, food, and sun protection.
The California Riding and Hiking Trail is accessible from this trailhead and provides opportunities for longer hikes and wilderness backpacking. Permits are required for backpacking in the national park; please check our website for more information.
