About
Isle Royale Seaplanes is the sole concessionaire offering seaplane transportation to Isle Royale National Park. Their main office and contact center is in Hancock, Michigan along the Keweenaw Waterway. Flights originate from there and from the Cook County Airport in Grand Marais, Minnesota. Both departure bases provide service to Windigo and Rock Harbor.
Schedule
Throughout the operating season the seaplane's schedule varies; it typically operates from mid-May through mid-September. Overnight and day-trip visits are offered.
Delays
Travel delays can occur due to fog and inclement weather. Usually delays are for a few hours; however delays can stretch over multiple days. Whether arriving or departing the island, be prepared for all travel possibilities.

Park Entrance Fees
A per person daily entrance fee is required to enter and remain in the park. Pay fees online prior to your trip.
Permits
After disembarking the seaplane at either Rock Harbor or Windigo, visitors are required to self-check in.
- Backpackers and Campers: Use the Self-Permit Station to collect and write a camping permit, following provided instructions. Note method of park entrance fee payment on permit. Each party collects one permit.
- Daytrippers: Use the same Self-Permit Station to self-certify that park entrance fees have been paid prior to arrival.
- Groups (Parties of 7 or More People): Do not use Self-Permit Station. Proceed inside the visitor center to retrieve your permit.
