Powell Point - Hermits Rest (Red) Route
in
Grand Canyon

Hermits Rest Route In service March 1, 2024, through November 30, 2024.

While a fine view of Grand Canyon is visible directly after stepping off the shuttle bus, a short, easy walk along the paved path out to the viewpoint is rewarded with even more excellent views and access to the Powell Memorial.

This large stone monument commemorates the 1869 Powell Expedition, the first known European American explorers to map the river's course by boat, traveling the Green and Colorado Rivers from Wyoming all the way through Grand Canyon.

Powell Point is the first of the three two-way shuttle stops along the Hermit Road. From here, one may board an outbound shuttle bus heading farther west to Hermits Rest, or inbound (east), back to Grand Canyon Village.

Hermits Rest (Red) Route

  • First bus is a 8 am. Last bus is one hour after sunset.
  • 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM (every 15 minutes)
  • 11:00 AM to one hour after sunset (every 10 minutes)
  • To ride the last bus, be at a bus stop 30 minutes after sunset.

Don't get caught out on Hermit Road in the dark without a ride back to the Village!

The last return shuttle stops at all Hermit Road bus stops on the way back to the Village to ensure that no one is left behind.
