Wooden Shoe Canyon to Lost Canyon Loop Trail

This loop hike is a bit more challenging, with one ladder and some difficult sections of climbing between the two canyons.

  • Roundtrip Distance: 8.7 mi (14 km) 

  • Time: 4-6 hrs  

  • Overall Elevation Change: 404 ft (123 m) 
    Cumulative elevation gain on this route is much greater. 

  • Difficulty: Strenuous 

  • Hike Description: A wonderful loop hike with some difficult sections climbing between two canyons. Riparian areas in both canyons attract birds and other wildlife. Route in Lost Canyon passes through dense vegetation and may be very wet. One ladder must be climbed.   

  • Bring: Water (at least 1 L per person, per hour), snacks, sturdy footwear, headlamp, map, and be prepared for, sun, rain, heat, or cold. 

  • Accessibility: This trail can be rough, uneven, and requires climbing rock surfaces and one ladder. It is not accessible to wheelchairs. In winter, there may be snow or icy conditions; we recommend traction devices for hikers.
