Robert Abbe was a physician, medical pioneer, and notable collector. A memorial plaque dedicated to him can be found inside the Abbe Museum at Sieur de Monts. The inscription reads as follows:

To the Glory of God, 

in behalf of the Truth, 

In gratitude for the 

Story of Man’s creation 

through the ages and in 

memory of 

ROBERT ABBE 

this museum
